The History of HostGator WebHosting

HostGator TeamBrent Oxley, was a student at Florida Atlantic University when he founded HostGator and he has since expanded it into a leading provider of Shared, Reseller, VPS, and web hosting.  Just a few months after HostGator was created, they quickly gained 112 active members. One year later, that number increased to 1,031 active members. HostGator’s momentum was slowly growing.  Three years later, the company went international by opening an office in Ontario, Canada.  Presently, the headquarters are located in Houston and Austin, Texas with several other international offices throughout the world.

The decision to relocate the headquarters office from Boca Raton, Florida to Houston, Texas occurred in 2006.  The company had outgrown its initial 2,000 square foot office space.  As well, Boca Raton was very limited in talented employees to choose from.  With the move to the 25,000 square foot building in Houston, forty of the original fifty HostGator’s employees made the transition and then the company grew exponentially from there.  In 2008, HostGator now had 100,000 active members and in just about a year, that number doubled in size.  The company was gaining traction before Oxley’s very own eyes.  And with that, expansion became necessary.  Once again, HostGator had opened a new 100,000 square foot office in Austin, Texas.  With more active members and office space came more employees.  As of February 2011, the company had now grown to over 500 employees and has not stopped hiring since.  Oxley had successfully grown this wonderful company that he had started back in his dorm room. And finally, on June 21, 2012, he announced that Endurance International Group had acquired HostGator.

As the company grew, it had started to get much recognition from web hosting critics nationwide.  Inc. Magazine named HostGator as the 239th fastest growing private company in the United States in August of 2009.  Furthermore, the magazine also recognized the company as the twentieth fastest growing private company in the business service subdivision.  If this wasn’t enough they also named HostGator the sixth fastest growing private company in the state of Texas.
